A career in healthcare is a great option

11th April 2017

Do you work for the NHS? If so, could you spare just one hour a year to tell others why a career in healthcare is a great option?

Elaine Bradbury, workforce development and engagement advisor with East Cheshire NHS Trust, is seeking ambassadors to assist the Cheshire Career and Engagement Hub which is focussed on raising the  interest of youngsters and also people aged 50 plus in a career in health and social care.

If you are interested in helping out, please email Elaine: elaine.bradbury@nhs.net).

The trust is one of three Caring Together partners involved in the hub, the others being Cheshire East Council and Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. Their support for the hub recognises that a sustainable workforce made up of staff from different age groups is crucial to the delivery of effective, joined-up care as envisaged by Caring Together.

The need to recruit young people is more pressing than ever as 40 per cent of the NHS workforce across Cheshire is projected to retire in the next decade.

Elaine said: “People tend to think that everyone working for the NHS is a doctor or nurse yet there are numerous other jobs on offer in disciplines such as administration, HR, ICT, finance and communications. What’s more, there are jobs available in numerous settings including hospitals, GP practices, clinics and community locations.”

The hub is currently developing opportunities to offer people “pre-employment” opportunities in a wide range of roles, typically for a half day or full day at a time.
