Caring Together goes back to school

3rd July 2017

Caring Together programme director Fleur Blakeman was invited to Tytherington School recently to give students an insight into how the NHS works.

Fleur was joined by colleagues Jane Stairmand and Robbie Nolan in an interactive session to interest young people in the wide variety of career paths available in the NHS.

Their presentation to students in the Advanced Learners’ Programme summarised the NHS’ structure, the challenges it faces and how they are being addressed locally through Caring Together. Students were interested to learn that Jane, a transformation manager at NHS Eastern Cheshire CCG, is not only a former student of the school but was also taught by Mrs Burke, one of its current teachers.

The session took a look at the CCG’s Choose Well campaign, giving students various real-life health scenarios and asking which service they should choose to get the care they needed without making inappropriate use of services. It also gave presenters a chance to reiterate the message of using urgent and emergency services only when absolutely necessary and the students impressed by answering most of the questions correctly.
