Patients needed to help put Greater Manchester ‘Healthier Together’ hospital plans into practice

26th June 2015

The people behind bold plans to overhaul hospitals in Greater Manchester are looking for six Eastern Cheshire people to help shape how services will work.

The Healthier Together programme wants to hear from people with the following experience of Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport or any other hospital in Greater Manchester:

  • Visited A&E in the last 12 months
  • Had planned surgery
  • Been rushed into hospital with a serious medical condition.

Recruitment to the six positions will be carried out by Healthwatch Cheshire East from early July to 11 September.

Anyone interested in applying should look out for information on the Healthwatch Cheshire East website, in local newspapers, on radio stations or via the Healthier Together website:

Healthier Together will gather the applications but decisions will be made by Healthwatch Cheshire East in partnership with NHS Eastern Cheshire CCG.

Healthier Together

Patients who are successful in joining the patient group will meet other patients for an introduction to Healthier Together and the healthcare professionals leading the changes across Greater Manchester in the middle of September in Central Manchester.

Unsuccessful candidates will have the opportunity to get involved with other opportunities in Eastern Cheshire with NHS Eastern Cheshire CCG for example, attending meetings of Eastern Cheshire HealthVoice or getting involved in the integrated care programme for the CCG, Caring Together.

The patient group will influence the way in which hospital services are provided by four new “single services” of networked hospitals.

The six Eastern Cheshire patients will join counterparts from North Derbyshire to develop a patient group which represents and champions the voices of individuals who live outside of Greater Manchester but often use Greater Manchester hospitals.

The other three groups will represent the north west area (Wigan, Bolton, Bury and Salford); north east area (Rochdale, Oldham, North Manchester, Tameside and Glossop); and south area (Central Manchester, Trafford, Stockport and South Manchester).
