Silvercloud to bring online mental health support to Eastern Cheshire

3rd August 2015

NHS Eastern Cheshire CCG has found a new way to cut waiting times for people needing face-to-face support from the area’s largest provider of mental health services – SilverCloud.

The CCG is to fund a five-month trial of an online service for people with low to moderate mental healthcare needs.

Use of the SilverCloud application will make it easier for Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust to see people awaiting psychological and cognitive behavioural therapies.

The SilverCloud trial will help 100 people on the current waiting list and will allow up to eight clinician-led reviews of the person’s progress through the various online programmes.

SilverCloud features a library of programmes accessible via PC, laptop, mobile phone or tablet device. The programmes support people suffering from anxiety, depression, stress, eating issues and chronic illness. Designed by clinicians in partnership with academic and medical institutions, the service teaches coping mechanisms and techniques to promote positive thinking.

The various modules are backed up by opportunities for face-to-face engagement with clinicians and fellow service users on channels including Skype and Face Time. The system produces reports that will enable the CCG to measure the difference it is making.
