Talking Therapies come to Congleton

3rd July 2017

Caring Together has welcomed the launch of new wellbeing sessions in Congleton as part of a Talking Therapies service commissioned by NHS Eastern Cheshire CCG to prevent stress, anxiety and depression, and to help people with mild to moderate symptoms.

The preventative part of the service is provided by Peaks & Plains Housing Trust in partnership with organisations including the Dove Service while the clinical input is given by The Big Life Group. However, in a new element of the preventative service, Plus Dane Housing is now running wellbeing sessions in the Bromley Farm Community Hub, Congleton; Handforth Library; and Hurdsfield Library and Ryles House Friendship Group, both Macclesfield.

The weekly sessions offer wide-ranging and practical health and wellbeing support to local residents in an informal and friendly setting. A menu of topics is covered along with drop-ins from guest speakers to provide specialist one-to-one and group support.

Talking Therapies helps with:

  • Everyday issues that affect mental wellbeing
  • Professional support for more serious mental health difficulties.

The service helps people deal with the root causes of mental wellbeing issues. These may include issues relating to:

  • Debt and money management
  • Physical health
  • Loneliness and isolation
  • Bereavement
  • Housing
  • Employment
  • Relationship breakdown.

The wellbeing sessions are for people aged 16 or over, and take the form of regular drop-ins, group activity or one-to-one meetings with a volunteer.  The services are free and aim to work with people towards feeling happier and healthier, as well as learning how to successfully manage life for the longer term.

The service covers the entire Eastern Cheshire area comprising Congleton, Alderley Edge, Bollington, Chelford, Disley, Handforth, Holmes Chapel, Knutsford, Macclesfield, Poynton and Wilmslow.
